There is nothing quite like the annual construction defect conference that Dave and Coral Stern work so hard to put together each year, now in its third decade.
Many of the people on Xpera's executive leadership team have been attending, occasonially speaking at, and consistently sponsoring the conference since its very first year. At Xpera, West Coast Casualty's Construction Defect Seminar is part of our DNA, and it is always something we look forward to with great anticipation.
This year was admittedly bittersweet. Don't get me wrong -- the conference and the content were terrific, as always.
But we were there not just to give out tschotskes and show off our cool video wall, but to pay tribute to a truly, truly great man.
(If you haven't had the chance, please read the heartfelt tribute to Michael Burgess written by Ted, with contributions from several clients and colleagues.)
As a way for the construction defect community to give back to the community at large, each year conference attendees and sponsors are given an opportunity to "buy a banner" through donating to a cause of one's choosing. This year Xpera chose to make a donation to one of Mike's favorite organizations, his beloved Boy Scout Troop 680 of Rancho Bernardo.
Here's a copy of the banner that hung over the conference this year from Xpera:
Thanks again to Dave and Coral Stern for everything they do.
And thank you, Mike. Wish you could have been there.
