Member Spotlight: Tony Fulton

We are thrilled to announce that Tony Fulton has joined Xpera’s diverse team of experts.

Fulton has over 35 years of experience as a registered architect, with expertise in construction program management, strategic planning, project management, master planning, plant operations, project development, and campus design and construction delivery models.

He worked with San Diego State University for nearly three decades, where he served as university architect and director of facilities, planning, design and construction, and was responsible for all day-to-day operations for campus facilities and capital improvement programs. His portfolio contains over $2 billion of projects of various types, from university academic classrooms to public-private partnership developments, including a $350 million mixed-use housing and retail development on campus.

While he formally “retired” after his tenure with the university, no moss is growing on this industry veteran. He enjoys staying actively involved in the construction industry and maintaining his relationship with peers in various ways.

Fulton maintains his own firm, AF Consultants, that specializes in providing performance audits and recommendations for process improvements to higher education and K-12 organizations. He also works with Patti Campbell at Project Assurance Group–West as a construction auditor for both educational and private sector development projects.

In 2016, he assisted the San Diego County Taxpayers Association with the review of bond issues prior to the election cycle, and he will likely continue those efforts this year.

In his free time, Fulton enjoys playing golf, reading, doing crossword and sudoku puzzles, and tackling carpentry and gardening projects around the two houses he maintains in La Mesa and Point Loma. (“One in trees, one at the beach.”)

“After knowing and working with Tony for many years, I am thrilled to now have him as part of the Xpera team to provide expertise in construction management, financial analysis and architecture,” said Xpera President Ted Bumgardner. “The depth of industry knowledge that he brings to the table, particularly with highly complex, large-scale projects, is invaluable and will be a real asset to our clients. Welcome, Tony!”
